ALPHA RHO HISTORY

IN THE BEGINNING
Sacramento, CA's first Omega Psi Phi chapter (Alpha Rho) was chartered as an Intermediate chapter in 1962.

REACTIVATION
Alpha Rho went inactive for some years until 1978 and then ran strong until 1983. These brothers were initiated into the chapter representing Sacramento State University and the University of California, Davis.

With the effort of abolishing intermediate chapters, Alpha Rho was deactivated as a chapter in 1983. However, brothers of Alpha Rho continued to their membership intake and by the next line initiated in that same year, Iota Mu chapter was chartered as an undergraduate chapter for Sacramento State and UC Davis with their first line of brothers made by Alpha Rho members.
In 1994, Brothers Barry Campbell, Fred Alexander, Richard Farnell, Keir Abrams, and Torey Lovett joined together in re-activating Alpha Rho, with recognition that there were many brothers in the Bay Area who were not active with any chapters locally. After many hurdles leaped and the perseverance displayed by these brothers, Alpha Rho was re-activated as a graduate chapter under the leadership of the 12th District District Representative Ricky Lewis. When this was done, the chapter was officially relocated to Berkeley, CA in 1997.
PROGRESSION
From 1995 to 2017, Alpha Rho chapter has grown in membership intake and upholding tradition of graduate chapter duties. In 1995, three brothers were initiated into Alpha Rho chapter; James Payton, Duran King, Al King. 1998, Hugh Stinnette was welcomed into the fold as a solo pledge.
Within the years of 2005-2015, Brother Fred Alexander served as District Keeper of Finance, 1st Vice District Representative and District Representative for the 12th District of this great fraternity.
After 18 years of reclaiming brothers whom usually moved to the East Bay Area away from their home chapters, hosting events, fundraisers, community services, and fellowships, the largest line in Alpha Rho Chapter history came through the fold of Omega in 2016; Brothers Theodore Folorunso, Jonathan Sims, Weyinmi Agbajoh, Omodele Adesanya, Shaun Warren, and Danny Stark, Jr.

Soon after, Alpha Rho has managed to bring in 7 more members into the fold within 2018 and 2019, respectively and only the second solo in Alpha Rho history in 2022. Thus, providing significant youth and leadership in the chapter and some undergraduate presence on the unchartered campus of CAL STATE UNIVERSITY, EAST BAY.

In 2019, Bro. Beruke Negussie was inducted into the 12th District council as the 2nd Vice District Representative.
On Sunday, November 17th, 2019, the brothers of Alpha Rho Chapter, committee-led by Bro. Malcolm Norrington, hosted the Northern California Founders Day Luncheon, with special guest speaker, first-vice Grand Basileus Ricky Lewis (now Grand Basileus, 2023). Bro. Keir Abrams, Sr. was honored with the Superior Service Award, as well as Bro. Danny Stark was honored with his second Omega Man of the Year Award.
